Chapter Roles and Duties

STC Wisconsin Elected Positions

President

The President is the head of the Administrative Council and is responsible for all operations. The Chapter President also delegates duties to the other officers and appoints committee managers. In addition, the president is responsible for:

  • Regularly scheduled program meetings (at least five per year)
  • Regular meetings of the Administrative Council to handle the chapter’s business
  • Fiscal controls by means of approved budgets and expenditures, and fiscal operations.

Vice President

The Vice President assumes the duties of the President in the absence or incapacity of the President and performs such other duties as the President or the Board may assign.

Secretary

The Secretary keeps minutes of all chapter and Administrative Council meetings and distributes them in accordance with Board policies and procedures; and performs such other duties as the President or the Board may assign.

Treasurer

The Treasurer oversees chapter finances; prepares an annual budget for approval by the Administrative Council; and delivers a report to the members on the Society’s financial condition at the Society’s annual business meeting. The Treasurer performs such other duties as the President or the Board may assign.

Membership Manager

The Membership Manager is responsible for maintaining the chapter membership roster, for distributing membership information for use in communication with chapter members and for recruiting efforts. In addition, the Membership Manager identifies members to be acknowledged for extraordinary length of service to the chapter.

Appointed or Advisory Positions

Immediate Past President

The Immediate Past President is not required to participate in the Administrative Council votes and may advise the President and the Administrative Council as needed and perform duties assigned by the President.

Newsletter Editor

The Newsletter Editor sends the chapter newsletter on a regular basis to the chapter’s members and any other parties identified by the Administrative Council. Duties include researching, writing and editing articles; laying out the newsletter, documenting and publishing it via email and the website.

Program Committee

The Program Committee consists of at least two chapter members and is responsible for coordinating chapter meetings, training sessions, activities, and social events. The Program Committee also makes arrangements with speakers and works with the Treasurer to pay honorariums. When appropriate, the Program Committee works with other chapters to coordinate regional or inter-chapter activities.

Mentoring Manager

The Mentoring Manager brings together mentors and proteges to encourage development and learning, with the goal of building awareness of the technical communication profession and increasing the number of skilled, experienced technical communicators participating in the Chapter. The Mentoring Manager helps mentors and proteges define the extent, duration and goal of the partnership.

Website Manager

The Website Manager ensures the chapter website is a valuable tool for communicating with members. This includes posting chapter meeting announcements, tracking RSVPs and payments; and facilitating the job board. The Webmaster also maintains the website and posts content at the direction of other members of the Administrative Council.
